Description: Computer Programmer Intern

Overview: Creative self-starter needed to create WordPress themes, support staff in social network development, and develop mobile apps. Computer Programmer Intern is a paid position with compensation to be discussed upon hiring. Successful Computer Intern Programmer candidate may work remotely with required weekly video conference. Position requires 10-20 hours weekly Nov. 1, 2013-May 15, 2014.

Job Duties:

  • Creates proprietary WordPress themes and plug-ins.
  • Works with website designer to plan concepts and themes
  • Creates images and material using Adobe Photoshop
  • Obtains approval of finished images and materials
  • Submits finished computer files to website designer
  • Ensures project completion by communicating with website designer
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops and reviewing professional publications
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Deep knowledge of WordPress platform
  • Experience in writing C++, Java, SQL Server, ASP.NET, HTML, CSS, PHP
  • Experience working on Android or Java development projects
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
  • Knowledge of data structures and efficient coding techniques
  • Preferred experience in programming with complex database interfaces
  • Consistent reading and participation in technical blogs a plus

Description: Journalist Intern

Overview: Creative self-starter needed to write news and feature stories for news website, write website copy, write marketing copy, proofread, edit. Journalist Intern is a paid position with compensation to be discussed upon hiring. Successful candidate may work remotely with required weekly video conference. Journalist Intern position requires 10-20 hours weekly Nov. 1, 2013-May 15, 2014.

Job Duties:

  • Interview people and conduct research necessary to write news stories and features
  • Write news stories and features and revise according to supervisor direction
  • Coordinate, write, and copyedit website content
  • Coordinate, write, and copyedit copy for marketing materials
  • Proofread and edit copy written by others
  • Work closely with design team to achieve project goals
  • Create ideas and content for print and online projects

Successful candidate must have their own access to Adobe Creative Suite (CS5 or higher) and may work remotely with required weekly video conference. Graphic Designer Intern Position requires 10-20 hours weekly Nov. 1, 2013-May 15, 2014.

Job Duties:

  • Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering information, images, and/or materials
  • Works with supervisor to plan concepts and themes
  • Works with supervisor to create marketing materials
  • Creates images and material using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and other programs
  • Obtains approval of finished images and materials
  • Submits finished computer files to supervisor
  • Ensures project completion by deadline by communicating with supervisor and/or client
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops and reviewing professional publications

Description: Social Media Intern

Overview: Creative self-starter needed to follow editorial calendar in crafting creative posts for clients on multiple platforms. Social Media Intern is a paid position with compensation to be discussed upon hiring. Successful Social Media Intern candidate may work remotely with required weekly video conference. Position requires 7-12 hours weekly Nov. 1, 2013-May 15, 2014.

Job Duties:

  • Follows editorial calendar to create and post targeted SMM content
  • Works with supervisor to understand editorial calendar and review posts
  • May work with clients to gather information for posts
  • Uses Photoshop to manage and edit photos for posts, and/or to create images (such as memes)
  • Obtains approval before posting social media content
  • Ensures post quota is met and quality is maintained by communicating with supervisor and/or client
  • Tracks numbers and content of posts
  • Maintains knowledge by following clients’ peers on social media
  • Stays informed about changing rules on existing social media networks, and about up-and-coming networks

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Junior or senior-level college student majoring in journalism, English, marketing, communications, or other related field.
  • Experience with major social media networks including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Youtube
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
